After harvesting the hairy cucumber, our lady farmer let their vines hung all over the trellises to air dry. This way, the vines would weigh a lot less and save us a lot of work when it came to clearing chore.  At the same time, a round of green manure was planted underneath to nourish the soil.
We thank Miss Cheung for pulling down the vines, raking them up a portion at a time and transporting them from zone 04 to zone 03.  The vines were then burnt into ashes between row 21-23 at zone 03. Our lady farmer would use the ashes as potash for the plot later on. (ac)

Row Composting:

The picture on the right was taken at the same spot 63 days ago.
To reduce soil loss in the erratic rainy season, we add base fertiliser to the rows, plough them in together with the green remains on the rows, cover them with HDPE ground sheets and let the rows fallow.  Row composting will also help soil organisms in the rows to break plant nutrients in the soil into an plant absorbable form.
When the weather is more agreeable in late summer, we roll up the sheets and start sowing again (right photo). (ac

Farmer 9Gor was not looking for landmines, he was carrying a chaff-cutter cutting overgrown weeds at zone 08 batch by batch (click photo to enlarge). He will turn the weed chips into the soil after with his ploughing machine. The microorganism in the soil will decompose the chips into humus, slowly releasing nutrients for the plants to eat. (ac)
